The parish of St Kentigern's was started on 23rd April 1969 when the first Minister, the Rev Stewart Jeffrey, was inducted. The first service was held in Park School on 27th April and very quickly the congregation grew from the original 50 who came to worship. By December of that year there were 147 members and over 200 children attending Sunday School.
In early 1970 Grassyards Hall (now used by the Scouts) was transported from the east coast and erected by members of the congregation, and was used for evening services and by organisations during the week. Work began building the present church in October 1971 and was dedicated in September 1972.
By 1975 the membership of the church had grown to almost 700 with 500 children in Sunday School, and the charge was given "full status" by the Church of Scotland.
At the end of 1978 Stewart Jeffrey moved to a charge in Aberdeen and in 1979 the Rev Malcolm Hare was inducted as minister. Over the next years, due to a drop in membership, vandalism and fabric expenses on buildings, things were hard. However the commitment of the members ensured that work continued in the parish.
In 1994 we celebrated 25 years of St Kentigern's church. With the retirement of Malcolm Hare in 1994 the search began for a new Minister. In 1995 the Rev Grant Barclay was inducted and we are looking forward to the continued growth of our church within the community.
We warmly invite anyone wishing to join with us for worship of the Lord Jesus Christ to come along.
